Sunae4

"We have the tendency to underestimate physical, mental, environmental and dietary stress in our everyday life. If you want your tree healthy, plant it in the right soil, nourish it with proper nutrition.”

Sunae Son, L.Ac, M.S.O.M. has spent much of her life exploring and researching western and eastern medicines, combining these practices over a decade of field and laboratory studies into mindful patient care in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Growing up in a large, close South Korean family, Sunae is the 42nd cousin. Her natural scientific interest led Sunae to Kyung-Buk National University in South Korea, where she earned two degrees, a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Life Science and Biotechnology. Committed to continuing her education and wanting to explore she decided to pursue her study in the United States. Sunae enrolled in The University of Wisconsin, studying Biomedical Engineering. Logging many hours of independent study and lab work, Sunae’s ambitions and career desires moved to slight different direction. With a strong desire for more interaction, her heart drifted towards patient care. Together with a personal connection to Eastern Medicine, she transitioned to the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in 2010 receiving a Masters of Oriental Medicine as well as a B.S. in Nutrition. Sunae is the 6th acupuncturist in her family.

After her formal education and training, Sunae began her professional career as the Head acupuncturist/Herbalist at Acu-Med Integrative Medicine in Waukesha, WI in 2011. Sunae utilizes treatments such as cupping, TuiNa, Moxa, Herbs and supplements to manage a variety of pain conditions. Sunae worked closely to integrate her plans with their staff of Chiropractors. After four years, Sunae moved-on to become Head Acupuncturist at AdCare Acupuncture and Wellness in Niles, IL, providing overall wellness treatments to her patients for two years before making her new nest shift to Chicago River North.

As long as she can remember, she has been a foodie and a strong believer in clean living and eating. She believes that our body built out from what we are eating, breathing, and thinking every day. She believes that we are like a tree; when the roots are not healthy, the branches and leaves cannot flourish or thrive. When she is treating patients she always wants to treat not only the symptoms, but also underlining condition that originally causing the symptoms. Sunae believes, “We have the tendency to underestimate physical, mental, environmental and dietary stress in our everyday life. If you want your tree healthy, plant it in the right soil, nourish it with proper nutrition.” While she is treating patients, she also gives advises and educates them to manage and prevent re-occurring symptoms. Sunae enjoys walking, Yoga and Pilates as well as finding fresh, organic food for cooking Oriental cuisine at home. Sunae is extremely excited to sharing her expertise and passion for wellness and healthy living with her current and future patients in River North Chicago.
